The Good-Looking Cast of Grey's Anatomy

Grey's Anatomy is currently the #1 television show in the universe. It's given time slot competitor CSI: a beat down, something that the Vegas-set, formulaic, turd producer has never experienced before. Grey's Anatomy is a very good show with an extremely attractive cast. EXTREMELY attractive. What makes Grey's good television is it's unique humor, it's ability to balance that huge cast and numerous storylines, and the strangely riveting medical subplots. But, we understand all of that. What I'm interested in are the hot chicks.

Actually, that's not be entirely true. While I'm not “interested” in the dudes on the show, they'll need to be added to the discussion. What discussion, you ask? Obviously, TV has always been a medium for the beautiful. But, how important is it, actually? Sure, you always want an alluring cast, but casting directors have always shied away from the total shamelessness of an all-attractive cast. Still, the attractiveness of a shows cast must have some effect on it's ratings, right?

My thesis is bold: Grey's Anatomy has the most effectively attractive cast in the history of television and that's a big factor in making Grey's Anatomy the top-rated show in America. Obviously, this is an unquantifiable assertion. Yet, it makes perfect sense when you break it down.

Grey's Anatomy has a humongous cast. This certainly makes things easier. Television comedies can't compete with a show like Grey's simply because they have less people to be attractive. The best looking sitcom cast ever is probably “Friends”, and that's only on the strength of Courtney Cox and Jennifer Aniston, two Hall-of-Famers. However, I'm looking at the whole spectrum here, which means adding the male contingent of the cast to the argument. Friends doesn't fare as well in that department.
The only shows that can really compete with the Grey's Anatomy cast are the prime time soap operas, the most formidable one probably being “Beverly Hills 90210”. Now, for sake of the argument, I'm only taking into account casts who were on-the-air together. This means Tiffani Amber-Thiessen cannot be considered in the same cast as Shannen Doherty (although it wouldn't really matter, considering Doherty was never that hot in the first place). At one point, Thiessen, Jennie Garth, Hilary Swank, Jason Priestly, and Luke Perry were all on the same show. However, their were some other cast members who brought the attractiveness down considerably (mainly Ian Zeiring.)

My point is, there are other shows that may compete with Grey's hotness; it is, of course, entirely subjective anyway (maybe you find the cast of “The View” aesthetically pleasing). But, what I said was that Grey's Anatomy had the most effectively attractive cast ever. This isn't any easier to quantify, but I think it'll be easier for all of us to agree on. The reason Grey's Anatomy has the best looking cast ever is because of the diversity of it's attractiveness. Take a look.

Girl Next Door Who Got Really Hot – Dr. Elizabeth Grey (Ellen Pompeo)
Older Heartthrob – Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey)
Younger Heartthrob – Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers)
Voluptuous, Sexy Blonde – Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl)
Proper, Statuesque, Black Man – Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington)
Hot, Older Brunette – Dr. Addison Shepherd (Kate Walsh)
Geeky, Awkward Dude – Dr. George O'Malley (T.R. Knight)
Quirky, Cute Asian – Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh)
Uninhibited, Chubby Sex Kitten – Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez)

Do you see why this is the number one show in America? Almost any type of person that anyone could possibly be attracted to is represented on Grey's Anatomy. Women can choose between the young good-looking guy, the older good-looking guy, the black good-looking guy, or the shy guy. Men get the super-cute brunette, the extremely hot blonde, the pretty older brunette, the sexy Asian, or the attractive plus-sized girl. Nowhere else on TV can you find that diversity.
And that's not even counting the recurring/guest characters like Chris O'Donnell and Christina Ricci. Also, no one on Grey's is there only because of their hotness (no models turned actors, no “Jessica Albas”, etc.) which makes their attractiveness even more effective.

Of course, I don't want to overstate the hotness factor in terms of overall viewership. Grey's Anatomy certainly benefits from the hotness, but it's not like it's a total game breaker. If the cast of Grey's were, say, 25% less hot, it'd still be a top ten show. But it probably wouldn't be number one.

The Untimely Death of Music Videos On TV
In 1986 music was forever changed with the debut of MTV. In the twenty years
since, music videos have become a way for the artists to express themselves
visually. When music videos first came out, it was mostly just the musician or
band playing the song--today music videos are more akin to mini movies featuring famous actors and actresses. The very
first music video played on MTV was “Video Killed the Radio Star” by the Buggles,
and in a sense it was true. Most bands have a music video before the ink has
even dried on the recording contract. MTV may have been the first music videos
channel, but definitely not the last. There are now several channels that show
music videos like MTV, VH1, GAC and Fuse TV just to name a few.

MTV now offers 4 different music video channels--MTV, MTV2, MTV hits, and MTVu.
MTV also has its own awards show just for music videos. VH1 caters to adult
contemporary music videos, GAC is the MTV for country music videos. Fuse TV is a
relatively new channel and focuses more on rock and metal music videos. The
newest kid on the block is The Tube Music Network, it features mostly mainstream
rock and indie rock videos. It is a throwback to the early days of MTV, a video
channel that actually plays music videos.

One of the most notorious musicians known for her controversial music videos is
Madonna. Madonna’s video for “Like a Prayer” in the late 80’s caused an uproar
with the Christian community over the depiction of an African-American Jesus who
kisses Madonna and featured Madonna dancing in front of a field of burning
crosses. Her music video of “Justify my Love” in the early 90’s was so
controversial that MTV banned the music video from the lineup. Perhaps the most
controversial genre of music videos currently are the rap and hip-hop music
videos, which typically feature scantily clad women, sexual situations,
violence, and drugs. It seems as though musicians are constantly competing for
the most extreme of music videos, whether it is sexual content, special effects,
obscurity or violence there are always music videos who push the envelope just a
little bit further.

The best of the best I have ever watched

OSI, a covert government agency is willing to help him and pay for all the expenses for his prosthetics. He lost his legs, eye and arm. The new prosthetics which is made of Bionics will make him faster, better and stronger. But in return OSI want him to become their cover agent. Married with Children focuses on the life of Al Bundy who is a former High school player, who is now a salesman. Peggy his wife always terrified and nag him. Curb The TV Habit In 3 Easy Steps
So you're not quite ready to throw the TV away, but you're limiting the time spent viewing television in your home? Here are some easy tips that have worked for me.

1) Identify when and why you watch and change your habits

Do you usually turn the tube on when you get home from work? Why? Do you turn it on in the late afternoon when the kids get home? Why?

Sometimes the TV goes on when we're tired or bored. If you're tired, you either need to: get more sleep or get more exercise. So instead of automatically flipping on the television, why not go for a 10 minute walk to refresh yourself? Or, take a nap!

If you're turning on the TV to "zone out" and decompress after a busy day, try developing a new, healthier habit.

Some examples:

Brew a nice cup of hot tea and drink it slowly.
Write in a journal.
Put your feet up on the couch and listen to music.
Do crossword puzzles (a recent study showed that people who do crosswords on a regular basis are less likely to get Alzheimer's disease.)

2) Make TV watching inconvenient.

A TV does not belong in the bedroom! Keeping one there is bad for a marriage and bad for your love life! It also contributes to insomnia. Put the television in an inconvenient place like the basement. Unplug it. Cover it with a blanket.

3) Give up cable.

I decided a long time ago that I would never have cable. I can think of about a thousand other ways to spend $50 a month (Starbucks, anyone?) plus my husband would probably spend all his time watching the Discovery channel instead of talking to me!

If you live in a semi-rural area, you might not even get any channels if you cancel your cable service. But that would be a good thing if you're trying to limit TV! You can use the TV as a "movie machine" and rent DVDs so that you can at least control the content better.

Here's to turning off the TV and turning on life!

Who are the Deal or No Deal Models?
Deal or No Deal's massive success is not something anyone could have predicted. Let's be honest here, the actual Deal or No Deal game is pretty darn stupid. There is no skill involved, unless you count “not being a moron” as a skill.

Why is CBS's Smith so fun?
The premise of Smith is completely ridiculous: A family man (Ray Liotta) is actually a master thief, who travels around the country pulling off grand heists. He has a team of specialists who assist him, and none are redeeming characters. So, we are supposed to root for a guy who deceives his wife and son, is a mercenary, and is a man who witnesses the death of a team member and walks away with no remorse?

Interview With TV’s Mike Nelson
An interview with Mike Nelson of Mystery Science Theater 2000 on what he thinks of Hollywood. Do you have to move to Los Angeles to write for the entertainment business, or can you stay where live took you so far and still be that same writer? Michael J. Nelson would probably suggest the latter as he's enjoyed a successful, busy career while never giving up his midwestern roots.
