Poetry and its Impact on American Society

Though many people will still roll their eyes at the idea of poetry, there is no disputing its impact on modern society. While many of us still associate poetry with sing song rhymes, that is only the beginning of this masterful art form. Poetry allows us to capture emotions and images in a shorter and more potent form of writing - and the impact is still being felt in this modern day, even if we try to avoid it at all costs.

Some of the most common signs of poetry in the modern world come in our celebrations of major holidays. We often use poems as a way to commemorate the day (i.e. T'was the Night Before Christmas) and incorporate rhyming thoughts into songs that will also celebrate the day. In addition, we send cards and other greetings to others to help celebrate their birthdays, anniversaries, and other special events, most often with rhyming well wishes.

Poetry has also been a constant part of our experience of music and culture in the modern world. While many songwriters are veering away from the traditional rhyme structure of poetry, they are still using a free verse style to capture their thoughts. We find our emotions and our experiences in the art of poetry and song. We can sing along to these sings because of their structure and their appeal. Many of us have favorite songs or songs that we attribute to special moments in our lives because of their ability to stick in our heads.

But these are not the only ways the poetry has affected the modern American society. More recently, poetry has become something that is being fought for in terms of its relevance to creation. Poetry is often considered an archaic means of communication, but the resurgence of concern about poetry and writing has increased its impact. Poetry is often more revered than other forms of writing because it is more difficult to write and even more challenging to sell or use as a main point of a career.

The use of poetry in schools has also caused an impact on American society. Children are able to learn to read and to learn to do mathematical problems because of the use of rhyming lessons. When a teacher uses rhymes, the student can remember what they are being taught and refer to it later in the day when they need that information again. Think about the Alphabet Song, for example. It uses the idea of rhyming in order to impress the letters into the child's mind.

Of course, we can not deny the usefulness of poetry and rhyming in our everyday advertising campaigns. Jingles and other ads are easy for us to recall when they include poetry and rhyme. And because these songs and rhymes can become stuck in our heads, they are all the more effective at getting us to buy something that is being sold.

The performance of poetry has come up in movies and has been seen in coffee houses and other performance places as well.

Poetry is not as simple as it seems, nor is it something that needs to be thought of as difficult. It is simply a tool in writing that can allow a writer to convey their emotions and ideas in a shortened form - or longer form, if lyrical poetry is written. In the end, poetry does have an impact on society because it captures our experiences and our lives. And while it might be seen as out of date and old-fashioned, it is still helping to communicate our biggest dreams and our darkest secrets.

He went on to say that those who think that they might be offended by the movie should wait tell they meet someone who has actually seen the film and then discuss the matter and decide whether to watch it or not.

For heavens sake, it’s a work of fiction. Let it be. You won’t turn to dust if you watch it or be condemned to eternal damnation for that matter. The Da Vinci Code movie is just like any other mainstream commercial cinema on the planet, the main objective it to make money. All this extra good or bad publicity only helps it along on that path. But who will explain this to the scores of “faithful” that call for a ban on it. These people are too wrapped up in sentiment.

The one other interesting point to note from all of this was that Ron Howard also reminded everyone that this was a movie and not a documentary. That’s another crucial mistake that people seem to be also making. Somewhere under the arc lights of today’s sharp marketing campaigns that are attached to mega budget productions the line between reality and fiction often blurs. In the process of trying to sell the movie we see it to be packaged as something that really took place. The advertising and marketing people have skills so well honed now that they can almost create any reality that they want. You could say that in many ways it’s the victim of its own success.

Lets not forget that the movie is based on a bestseller. The books are still on the shelves and selling at hyper speed. If the book is still around why ban the movie?

My Rented Vacation - The RV Saga
My wife and I have a tradition of vacationing the month of January at a quaint little area in Florida. It is not on the beach where the high priced restaurants are located and where the crowds gather. We enjoy this quiet little RV park that is on the banks of a fishing lake located in central Florida. Several couples caravan south in our RVs to escape the harsh winter weather which seams to get worse the older we get. It is a time that we can relax after the busy holiday season and we can renew our close relationships with our friends.

This year we ran into some bad luck just before we were to depart for our relaxing getaway. The RV would not start and it needed engine repairs that would not be finished in time for our vacation. We did not want to cancel our plans, as this time is something that we look forward to each year. So we decided to rent an RV for our trip.

There are a couple of dealers close that have RV motorhome rentals available, so we decided to check them out. The first question that we were asked was if this was a one way RV rental. I answered no, and that we would be returning in it. They mentioned that they were a pet friendly RV rental agency and did we have pets. My answer again was no, and we would rather not rent a motorhome that pets have inhabited. My wife is allergic to pets. They were very friendly and helpful and seemed to the RV motor home rental business very well.

I was very much impressed when they suggested that we drive to Florida in our automobile and rent an RV unit when we get there. This would save us several dollars in fuel expenses, enough to where we could afford a motel if need be. My one concern was if there would be a unit available to rent when we got there. And being the professionals that they are, they went ahead and made all of the necessary arraignments for us. They secured a vehicle for us that would be waiting, ready to go, when we arrived in Florida, and helped us make the deposit online.

So we didn’t miss our January outing after all, and it ended up being a very memorable occasion. I will not forget our rented vacation. When we returned from our trip, I purchased a new vehicle from the dealer with the friendly and very helpful rental staff.
